Autocomplete provides real-time suggestions while translating in the translation editor to speed-up the actual translation work and achieve better overall consistency. For the time being, it works for any language except Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

If autocomplete is enabled, translation data will be sourced from the machine translation service previously defined in the machine translation tab of the organization detail settings. Nonetheless, activating the autocomplete feature does not influence the overall machine translation contingent.

Differently from the pre-translation feature, autocomplete retrieves machine translation suggestions word by word alongside the translation work. In this way, translators can choose to use them for one sentence while translating another one entirely on their own.

Autocomplete can be used while translating every kind of key, on the condition that it is enabled both in project settings as well as in the translation editor.

Note

The syntax of array keys might not be fully supported.

Enabling autocomplete

  1. In the Projects page, hover the mouse on the project where to activate autocomplete and click on More/Project settings from the drop-down menu at the top.

The Project settings window will be displayed.

  2. Select Advanced in the left-side menu of the window to view the corresponding settings.

  3. Select the Enable autocomplete checkbox and make sure to flag at least one of the following options:

    • Include machine translation

The Enable machine translation checkbox must be selected in the advanced project settings to use suggestions from machine translation.

    • Include entries form the term base

Optionally, select this checkbox to include suggestions from any term base added to the current project.

  4. Open the translation editor from the overview tab of the current project, then select the Autocomplete checkbox in the target language pane.

  5. Simply toggle the Autocomplete checkbox to disable it anytime while editing the locale in the translation editor.

Autocomplete will indicate if it is ready or disabled above the translation input field.

Using autocomplete

When autocomplete is enabled in the translation editor, a small drop-down menu with suggestions will be automatically displayed while typing in the target language pane. The amount of suggestions being shown depends on the length of the text being translated. The maximum number of suggestions in the dropdown menu is 50.

To interact with the autocomplete suggestions, follow these steps:

  1. Browse the suggested translations to find the most suitable match. In case of a longer list, use the ArrowUp and ArrowDown keys to show all suggestions.

  2. To accept a suggested word and move on to the next one, either press Tab or Enter.

The former will keep the suggestion dropdown menu open, while the Enter key will select the word and close the dropdown menu to take a look at the whole sentence.

  3. Type in a new character to display again the drop-down menu and continue interacting with the autocomplete suggestions.
