Editor Key List (Strings)

Content is machine translated from English by Phrase Language AI.

The left-side section of the translation editor is used to find keys that require translation or review through different search modes and filtering tools. This section also allows creating new keys manually in the current project by selecting the Add key button at the bottom.

By default, a preview of the source content is displayed under each key in the list. To hide the source preview in the key list, toggle Show source text preview from the View dropdown menu at the top right of the source and target language pane.

Search bar

Use the search bar at the top to find translation keys and associated content using a query language.

Follow the query formatting rules to create queries across multiple search entities and view the desired subset of keys.

Available search entities:

  • Content

  • Key name

  • Tag

  • Custom metadata

  • Upload

  • Notification

Save and Reuse Queries

It is possible to save queries specific to the current project.

To save and apply search queries, follow these steps:

  1. Enter the query in the search bar.

  2. Click the bookmark bookmark.jpeg icon.

    The Save search window is displayed.

  3. Name the query and click Save.

    The query is saved for the current project.

  4. Press the ArrowDown key in the search bar.

    A list of saved queries is displayed.

  5. Select the desired query from the list to apply it.

    Note

    If needed, select Delete from the three-dot menu more.jpeg next to a saved query to remove it from the list.

Click on the Open query builder button adv_search.jpeg next to the search bar to toggle the query builder and display additional options and fields above the key list.

The query builder provides a user-friendly interface for creating advanced search queries by using multiple search fields for different search entities.

Available search entities:

Case sensitivity is always enabled for custom metadata fields, starts with and ends with operators, and wildcard queries.

To find the desired subset of keys through the query builder, follow these steps:

Toggle on and off the Case sensitive option from the three-dot more.jpeg menu to apply case sensitivity to all text fields as required.

  1. In the Content or Key name search fields, enter the desired keyword(s) and select one of the available query operators from the dropdown menu next to the respective field.

    To add multiple content or key name filters, click + Add Filter at the bottom.

  2. Optionally, click on the Tags dropdown menu and select one or multiple tags to find only keys associated with those tags.

  3. If required, click + Add Filter at the bottom to filter keys by any custom metadata properties assigned to the current project.

    1. Select one or multiple properties among those available in the dropdown list.

    2. Specify the value for each custom metadata according to the property type:

      • Text or String

        Type the text or the string to be matched. Select Exact match if required.

      • Boolean

        Specify the desired value by selecting the relevant checkbox.

      • Single-select

        Select the desired value from the dropdown field.

      • Multi-select

        Select one or multiple values from the dropdown field.

      • Link

        Type the text of the link to be matched.

      • Number

        Type the number to be matched.

      • Date

        Specify the date or the time range to be matched by selecting the start and end dates from the calendars.

Sorting and filtering tools

Under the search bar, there is a drop-down menu to sort the key list. Use the available options to order keys and search results by best match, by alphabetical order, by last update or by age.

At the top of the key list, filtering options are displayed by clicking the filter button keylist_filter.png. Click on the Expand all sections button expand_filters.jpeg at the top of the filter window to expand all available filters at once, or use the search field to search for filters by name. Select one or multiple options to filter keys and search results based on their translation or verification status, excluded state, plural forms or pre-translation state.

For keys displaying only source language, filters are applied on the source key view.

Batch actions

At the top of the listed keys and next to each key there are checkboxes for multiple keys selection. Upon selection, the editor shows a new popup at the bottom of the screen allowing to perform a batch action on the selected keys.

Batch actions can be applied to selected keys both in single target language view and in multilingual view. Batch actions are also enabled for keys with only source language view.

Note

When target languages are selected, batch actions are applied to the target languages.

Batch actions are:

  • Update status

    Show a dropdown with options to mark selected keys according to their verification (flagged/unflagged) or exclusion status.

    If the advanced review workflow has been enabled in the project settings, additional options are displayed to mark selected keys according to their review status.

  • Delete keys

    Delete the whole selected keys, not just their translations.

  • Attach screenshot

    Select the 3dots_icon.jpeg button to display this batch action.

    Upload one or more screenshots to attach to the selected keys. The uploaded screenshots are displayed as key reference in the contextual sidebar.

  • Add Figma preview

    Select the 3dots_icon.jpeg button to display this batch action.

    Add new Figma links as a key reference in the contextual sidebar for the selected keys.

  • Add to job

    Select the 3dots_icon.jpeg button to display this batch action.

    Click on Add to job and choose a job from the list, or select Add job to create a new job based on the selection.

  • Add/remove tags

    Select the 3dots_icon.jpeg button to display this batch action.

    Enter the desired tags and add them to or remove them from the selected keys.

  • Edit custom metadata

    Select the 3dots_icon.jpeg button to display this batch action.

    Select the desired custom metadata property among the ones assigned to the project. Then, add or edit relevant values to display in the Custom Metadata section of the key contextual sidebar. Select Update to apply the changes.

  • Character limit

    Select the 3dots_icon.jpeg button to display this batch action.

    • Set character limit for the selected keys by typing the desired value in the Character limit window. Press Enter to apply it.

      Any existing character limit for the selected keys is replaced by the new value.

    • Remove any existing character limit for the selected keys by clicking Remove set character limit in the Character limit window.

  • Pre-translate

    Select the 3dots_icon.jpeg button to display this batch action.

    Run pre-translation on selected keys to fill out any missing translations in the current target language. Pre-translation only translates empty translations and skip over keys that have already been translated.

  • Clear target translations (displayed in target language view)

    Select the 3dots_icon.jpeg button to display this batch action.

    Discard any changes in the target language and revert to the previous content. The translation status is set to untranslated.

  • Clear source translations (displayed in source language view)

    Select the 3dots_icon.jpeg button to display this batch action.

    Discard any changes in the source language and revert to the previous content. The source translation status is set to untranslated.

  • Link to parent key

    Opens a window to create a new link where the child keys are preselected.
