Term Bases (TMS)

Assign a Term Base to a Project (TMS)

Content is machine translated from English by Phrase Language AI.

In order to use a term base for translation in an editor and quality assurance, the TB must be assigned to a project.

Multiple TBs can be assigned to one project and a single TB can be assigned to multiple projects. There can be up to 10 TBs assigned to each project per language.

To assign a term base to a project, follow these steps:

  1. From a project page, click Select from the Term bases table.

If there are multiple target languages, the Select TBs window opens (if there is only one target language, this step is skipped). Select All or specific language from the dropdown list.

  2. In the Term bases page, find required TBs by scrolling the list in the Relevant section, or by filtering the list through available fields at the top.

  3. Set options for selected TB(s):

    • Read: Checks if terms are found in the source text, if so they are returned on the CAT pane of the editor.

    • Write: Terms can be added and edited (with limits) by linguists during translation. New terms are not automatically applied to an entire translation project and would have to be manually updated (search and replace) to ensure translation accuracy.

      Note

Only one TB can be assigned in the write mode.

    • QA: As part of quality assurance, it is checked if terms with Approved status in the source have a corresponding term translation (New or Approved status) in the target.

  4. Click Save to select TBs.

Project page opens with assigned TBs listed in the Term bases table.

Use case

There is a project with source EN and target languages CS and DE.

There are two TBs:

  • Czech TB from EN to CS

  • Multi TB from EN to CS and DE

  1. In the Select TBs window, Czech is chosen from the Language dropdown.

The Czech TB is displayed in the Relevant section of the Term bases page. Assign it to the project.

  2. From the Term bases table of the project, click again Select.

    The Select TBs window reopens.

  3. Select All to choose a Multi TB so both target languages in the project benefit from it.

In this case, the Czech TB will not be displayed in the Selected section of the Term bases page, as All was the selected option (i.e. CS and DE). The Czech TB has only CS and not DE, so it cannot be displayed.

  4. Select Multi TB from the Relevant section to assign it to the project.

The Multi TB in the Selected section overwrites the previous selection (Czech TB).

To remove TBs for specific languages in a project, follow these steps:

  1. From a project page, click Select from the Term bases table.

If there are multiple target languages, the Select TBs window opens (if there is only one target language, this step is skipped). Select the desired language from the dropdown list.

  2. Find required TBs in the Selected section and uncheck all their access mode options.

  3. Click Save to remove TBs.

Project page opens. The removed TBs are no longer listed in the Term bases table.
