If the client needs to create multiple WF steps in order to differentiate between clients (for example, if they need a different set of WF steps / providers for each client), it can get potentially confusing for the PMs.
If there is a mistake in a setup of the template, a wrong WF step can be populated. Since the WF steps have abbreviations only in the WF steps settings, but not in Projects view, wrong WF step can be marked and/or it is hard to differentiate with them.
It's not possible to differentiate between steps in Project settings - no abbreviation is shown, they are just in the order as in the WF settings in general Settings.
