GNU gettext 是简化本地化和国际化的标准库。它从原文/源语代码中提取 Strings，创建可编辑的本地化格式，并将翻译后的内容集成回软件。

只要配置正确，gettext 就会生成可移植对象模板或可移植对象 PO，两者都包含从原文/源语代码中提取的 Strings。这两个文件可以用文本编辑器打开。翻译完成后，gettext 会将 PO 转换为仅计算机可读的 MO 文件（机器对象文件）。
