Repetitions (TMS)

Content is machine translated from English by Phrase Language AI.

Segments repeated within a job are labeled as repetitions. The first instance of a repetition is identified with a heavy arrow Repetition_heavy.pngand subsequent repetitions with a lighter arrow Repetition_light.png.

Segments are considered repetitions if:

  • Segment 1 and Segment 2 contain identical texts.

If Ignore tag metadata is unselected in file import settings:

  1. Segment 1 and Segment 2 contain identical texts with tags of the same type at the same places with the same tag metadata regardless of tag ids.

  2. Segment 1 and Segment 2 contain identical texts with at most one formatting tag (may consisted of multiple formats) or a paired number tag surrounding it regardless of the surrounding tag; they may differ in that tag. Note that no other formatting or tags may be present within the text.

Segments with plural form are not considered repetitions.

If the Set segment status to 'confirmed' for the Repetitions option is enabled in CAT editor settings, the translation of a repeated segment is automatically propagated to all subsequent repetitions. When a linguist confirms a segment that is repeated later in the document, all repetitions of that segment are confirmed.

Repetition propagation is a CAT editor behavior and is separate from pre-translation. Pre-translation applies translation memory, non-translatables, and machine translation matches in batch before a job is opened in the editor. Repetition propagation runs later, inside the editor, as the linguist works.

Repetition exception

Clicking on the repetition icon crosses out the arrow Repetition to indicate an exception from the repetition. This allows the instance to have a different translation. If auto-propagation of repetitions is disabled, the first repetition exception is identified with greyed out disabled_rep_new.jpeg arrows.

LQA assessment of repetitions

When flagging an LQA issue in a repetition, there must be a decision on how other instances of the repetition will be flagged. Select an option from the dropdown menu.

Disabling auto-propagation of repetitions

To disable/enable the auto-propagation of repetitions, follow these steps:

  1. From the Settings Setup_gear.png page, scroll down to the Project settings section and click on CAT editor.

    The CAT editor page opens.

    Or

From the Edit Project page, open the CAT editor menu.

  2. Select Auto-propagate repetitions.

  3. Click Save.

Settings are saved and repetitions are identified in the editors with greyed out Disabled Repetition and Disabled Repetition arrows.

Unless the option is disabled by a project manager in Access and Security settings, Linguists can disable/enable the auto-propagation of repetitions in the CAT pane preferences.

Repetition Use Case

Prevent linguists from editing already confirmed repetitions

After the first repetition is confirmed, segments with subsequent repetitions are auto-propagated and locked so as to be uneditable by Linguists.

To set up this use case, follow these steps:

  1. From the Settings Setup_gear.png page, scroll down to the Project settings section and select CAT editor.

    The CAT editor page opens.

  2. Under Repetitions, select Auto-propagate repetitions, Auto-propagate to locked repetitions and Lock subsequent repetitions.

  3. Click Save.

When Allow linguists to edit locked segments is enabled in Access and Security settings, Linguists can edit a locked segment by pressing F2 in the CAT editor. To prevent Linguists from editing locked segments, keep this option disabled.
